Hulu Expands Content Library with Addition of Who’s the Boss?
Hulu is making headlines once again by adding the beloved classic sitcom “Who’s the Boss?” to its streaming lineup.
The show, created by Martin Cohan and Blake Hunter, stars Tony Danza as Tony Micelli, a former Major League Baseball player turned live-in housekeeper for an advertising executive in Fairfield, Connecticut.
The ensemble cast includes Alyssa Milano as Tony’s daughter Samantha Micelli, Judith Light as ad-exec Angela Bower, Katherine Helmond as Angela’s mother Mona Robins, and Danny Pintaro as Angela’s son Jonathan Bower.
Originally airing on ABC from September 20, 1984, to April 25, 1992, the series ran for eight seasons and a total of 196 episodes.
During its original run, “Who’s the Boss?” was a ratings juggernaut, consistently ranking in the top ten from 1985 to 1989.
The show has maintained popularity in syndication worldwide since its conclusion.
Not only did it capture audience attention, but the sitcom also garnered critical acclaim, receiving nominations for 10 Primetime Emmy Awards and five Golden Globes.
The notable recognition came in 1989 when Katherine Helmond won the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress in a Series, Miniseries, or Television Film.
Additionally, Mark J. Levin, the director of the episode “Two on a Billboard,” took home the Emmy Award for Outstanding Lighting Direction for a Comedy Series.
Hulu’s move to include “Who’s the Boss?” follows its recent addition of all 177 episodes of “House.”
The streaming platform boasts a diverse library, including popular shows like “Bob’s Burgers,” “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” “Family Guy,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “The Masked Singer,” “This Is Us,” “Rick & Morty,” and “30 Rock.”
In a further display of commitment to content, Hulu has renewed “Futurama” for two additional seasons.
Amidst these content expansions, Hulu is undergoing corporate changes. Reports indicate that Disney is set to acquire Comcast’s stake in Hulu later this year.
Disney, the parent company of Hulu, has announced plans to merge Hulu with Disney+, a move expected to take place later this month, as revealed by CEO Bob Iger.
